Published in Unknown Binding by Postermil ()
Average review score:

The Best of Its Kind!If you're interested in posters from the period of the Spanish Civil War, this collection is second to none. Two thousand high-quality reproductions of posters dealing with every aspect of the war. Predictably, most are from the republican side, but that is to be expected if you are familiar with the war.
A must-have for afficionados of the period, and worth every cent!

The Lady from Spain (Signet Regency Romance)
Published in Paperback by Signet (September, 1997)
Average review score:

A wonderful Regency with mystery, intrigue and action. What a delight for lovers of Regency. Gail Eastwood is a wonderful writer. All her books have great characters, superb dialogue and exciting plots, and this book is no exception. The heroine is very sympathetic. Her adventures hold the reader's attention from the first paragraph, and the hero is yummy! Grab this book. You'll be glad you did!

Las Siete Partidas, vol. 1 (Middle Ages Series)
Published in Paperback by University of Pennsylvania Press (December, 2000)
Average review score:

Seven Divisions in five booksIt's such a relief to have the Siete Partidas available in this attractive, reasonably priced set. The venerable Robert I. Burns has given it a wonderful general introduction and the index increases its accesibility even more than the very clear translation does. No more ploughing through paragraph after paragraph of Old Spanish, in 19th-century print, to get to the enlightening and even entertaining ideas that so well characterize the 13th century and give sociological background to any kind of medieval research.

Lazy Days Out in Andalucia (Cadogan Guides Series)
Published in Paperback by Globe Pequot Pr (June, 1996)
Average review score:

I can't believe this series is out of print!I own two books of this series (Andalucia and Normady, aka "Across the Channel") and love them both. If your holiday plans ever revolve around finding the best food, or if you're trying to relax, not just go, go, go then these books are perfect. Each short chapter is a separate tour focusing on one excellent restaurant, something worth making a drive for. Then it gives tourist information for the surrounding area (choosing the best of what's around, not just listing everything). Churches, museums and other cultural sites, national parks, a local winery, etc. The idea is that you set out from wherever you're staying, see the suggested sites (most likely something off the beaten path, but there are city suggestions as well) and then settle in for a nice leisurely lunch (ideally something with a great terrace and an incredible view). The practical information on both sites and restaurants is accurate and detailed. Maps and driving directions are included for every little tour. The restaurants tend towards the pricier, but as many of them are small town or country places, they are often quite affordable. I looked this up hoping there was another in the series for my next destination.

Legacy of glory; the Bonaparte kingdom of Spain, 1808-1813
Published in Unknown Binding by Scribner ()
Average review score:

a challenging study in the folly of political obsessionMichael Glover paints a compelling portrait of the blind pursuit of fantastic political ends. Napoleon overthrew the Bourbon royal house of Spain even though it was the only significant ally which had never gone to war against him. The emperor's reasoning (such as it was) is presented by the author with due regard for his sources. Glover shows us Napoleon writing to Marshal Murat explaining in detail why an invasion of Spain cannot possibly succeed. On the same day as he penned this letter, Napoleon offered the Spanish crown to his older brother, Joseph. The results of this folly are presented in a superbly paced and meticulous narrative. King Joseph appears as a well-meaning incompetent. The French military commanders in Spain are presented as quasi-independent satraps, motivated by combinations of greed, lust for power, and mutual jealousy. Behind events are the figures of Napoleon and Wellington - the former trying to control Spanish affairs from as far away as Poland - the latter taking real control by remaining on the scene. Events build to a climax which seems both tragic and inevitable. Anyone interested in the Napoleonic period will benefit by this book. But more than that, Michael Glover presents a story which transcends a particular time and place to show us the folly resulting from any obsession which blinds political leaders to reality.

The Legacy of Muslim Spain
Published in Paperback by Brill Academic Publishers (01 December, 2000)
Average review score:

Exception reference now at an afforadable priceNow that this major contribution to the history and culture of Andalusian Spain during the heyday of high medieval Muslim culture is available in a paper edition, this text should be considered for course work as there is quite simply no other resource like it in English that attempts to provide a fulsome account of Islam in Spain.

The Legal Culture of Northern New Spain, 1700-1810
Published in Hardcover by University of New Mexico Press (October, 1995)
Average review score:

Superb overview.Charles Cutter, professor at Purdue University and all-around nice guy, has written a superb overview of an often overlooked aspect of Spanish frontier history. Son of legendary Borderlands historian Donald Cutter, Charles proves himself a premier historian of the period in his own right.
