Exemplary Stories (Penguin Classics)
Published in Paperback by Viking Press (March, 1986)
Authors: Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra, Cyril A. Jones, and Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Average review score:

charming stories
Those are beautiful, charming stories about life and characters in Cervantes's time, perfectly despicted. I would suggest to read them in Spanish so as not to loose the amazing prose of the author. I read The Little Gipsy Girl when I was a child and still remember the magic of the story.

The FIFTH COLUMN : AND FOUR STORIES OF THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR
Published in Paperback by Scribner (26 May, 1998)
Author: Ernest Hemingway
Average review score:

Educational Fiction
The Fifth Column part of the book is very entertaining. I enjoyed it more than the four stories. Give this book a chance if you have any interest in either the Spanish Civil War or Ernest Hemingway. Also try A SUN ALSO RISES. That book is good as well.

Frommer's Portugal
Published in Paperback by Frommer (February, 2002)
Authors: Darwin Porter and Danforth Prince
Average review score:

on the mark
I went to Portugal November of '98' and had purchased several books before my trip. I found this book very acurate and helpful. I was nervous because this book had no pictures or photos, I had to just trust it. It was right on the mark. The best place we stayed was in Sintra in a bueatiful bed and breakfast among Sequia Trees, and was average in price.

Frommer's Spain 2000 (Country Annual)
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (11 November, 1999)
Authors: Darwin Porter, Danforth Prince, and Frommer
Average review score:

Well organized travel guide for Spain
Frommer's latest travel guide for Spain is ready for the new millennium with up-to-date information including email addresses for many hotels and establishments. I liked the organization of the book, starting with "The best of Spain" overview, planning essentials and then sections for each region. As with other Frommer's guides, each region includes information on the history and culture as well as notes for many cities. Practical information on where to stay, eat, visit and shop are included for each area. A new section at the end of the guide includes numerous web sites for more information. I found this to be of significate use -- particularly for on-line reservations and locating cyber-cafes (an excellent way to keep in touch on the road, if needed). Included is a detachable full-color, full-sized detailed map of Spain and Portugal. This version of Frommer's guide does not contain the "If you have two/three/fou days..." sections recommending itineraries for the major cities. I think this might be a good thing.

The Garden Next Door
Published in Hardcover by Grove Press (November, 1992)
Authors: Jose Donoso, Hardie St. Martin, and Hardie St Martin
Average review score:

A Guide to Andalusia
Published in Hardcover by Viking Press (September, 1990)
Author: Michael Jacobs
Average review score:

Detailed, wide-ranging, and entertaining guide to Andalusia
I very much appreciated Mr. Jacobs thorough research into all aspects of Andalusia. He puts the area into historical perspective, introduces the viewpoints of early non-Spanish travelers, and maintains a very high level of objectivity. At the same time, he is able to give his readers a fresh contemporary perspective through his own eyes and ears and those of his local contacts. Incredibly well-woven prose that covers everything from the Alhambra to bull-fighting to tapas. I very-much appreciated having this book with me when I traveled through southern Spain. It is a shame that the book is out of print.
